Natchez Green Vacation Travel
When you think eco-friendly and modern technology to reduce the environmental impact of buildings and people you would not normally think of Natchez, Mississippi. This charming town sitting beside the greatest economic thoroughfare of the country (the Mississippi River) is better known for riverboat gambling and jazz. So why is Natchez included here? It's called history.
To understand the green lifestyle, sometimes it's important to look at how things developed and how people did without the technology we rely on today. Natchez is home to a wide variety of antebellum architecture. This architecture, built before the Civil War, relied on the environment to help cool, heat, provide water and just about anything else you can think of. This included dog-runs to allow wind to travel through structures, porches and verandas, wide bay windows, as well as other techniques. Going along the Natchez trail, you can learn about this older architecture and dip your toe in the history of the green movement.
Additionally, you can see how river life was. Up until the turn of the 20th century, the Mississippi was the lifeline to much of the country. Going from New Orleans all the way past St. Louis, it was a major hub of commerce and cities sprang up all along the river. The pure power of the river has been one of natures gifts to the United States and should be appreciated for what it is.
So go to Natchez and enjoy the Natchez Trace hiking trails, the historic buildings and a reminder of a past that isn't really that long ago.
